Sun(?) Diego...

When we first planned our trip to San Diego I had visions of 80 degree weather, bright hot scorching sun, long beach days, tans, and clear skies.  As the vacation approached and I checked the weather forecast (obsessively...hoping that if I kept rechecking maybe it would change) I was dismayed to read high 50's, cloudy skies and rain.  Rain?  50's? Clouds?  Those weatherpeople must be wrong.  They have to be wrong.  They are so wrong I am not going to take anything warmer than a sweatshirt for myself.  Well low and behold, they weren't wrong.  And as it turns out a sweatshirt isn't quite warm enough so you might have to buy a scarf to wear while in San Diego.  But not all was lost.  We decided that weather is all relative.  Partly cloudy and 60 degrees is way better than fully cloudy and 35 degrees or waaaay better than -10 degrees.  Who needs 80 degrees to have fun anyway?  Not us, because we had plenty of fun without it!!!

All ready to board that plane bound for fun...
The girls are giddy with excitement.  I asked Annika what she was more excited about...San Diego or seeing Nana.  She said seeing Nana...ahhhh.
A little cloudy weather doesn't thwart my hearty Pacific Northwesters from hitting the beach the minute we arrive.
The view from our hotel room was quite beautiful.
These little silly birds would visit our room every morning pecking at the glass waiting for snacks.  If you opened the door too wide they would threaten to hop in.  And if you bent down to pet them (Nana) they would bite.
Even though the nights were chilly we were bound and determined to enjoy a tropical drink.  Doesn't Nana look like she is enjoying her tropical drink while wearing her finest resort wear?
Wait...what's this weatherpeople...sun?  YEA...just in time for Sea World!
There were lots of cool sights to be seen at Sea World.  One of them included these noisy flamingos.
One of the highlights of Sea World was getting to feed and pet a dolphin.  Here Cortez awaits his fish.
 Annika the dolphin whisperer...
Even though it was sunny it was still only 60 degrees...which is great if you have a dry layer.  Lena wanted to go on Shipwreck Rapids.  Shipwreck Rapids is a fun ride where you get SOAKED.  And soaked we got.  I needed my two little heaters to snuggle up with me afterwards to keep me warm.
Lena and Cortez.  Cortez wasn't slimy or soft.  He felt a lot like a hot dog.  Who knew?
Nana and her girls enjoying the Shamu Show...
Our last day was sunny but breezy so we decided to rent bikes and ride along the ocean and bay.  It was a great way to see the sights and enjoy the warmth.
 Maneuvering through the crowd.
We stopped for lunch at a restaurant that had outdoor seating.  All I wanted was a really good margarita.  All Nana wanted was some sunshine to sit in.  We got both!  As you can see Annika is really enjoying her time in the sun.
As the final hours of sunlight shone on the day the girls had to get in one last moment of sand.
All in all it was a great girls trip and we can't wait to start planning our next one.  Thank you Nana and my two great little travelers!!!
On a side note:  the Jason Countdown is  to the single digits!!  We can't wait for March 4th.  Whoohoo!!!

What a FUN trip! I'm totally jealous! love the pictures--my favorite is where you guys are having outdoor lunch and your mom and girls are bundled up in your polar fleece and the "other" patrons are in short sleeves at the tables behind you---I'm going to have to start calling Nana, Lena & Annika Rookie Jr's (and Sr's) as Rookie bundles up in the "sun" too!
