Like a Fine Wine...

We just keep getting better and better...
Happy 9th Anniversary Jason...
Romantic Fact: We will be celebrating this very special year by driving with the kids and dogs to Yakima, WA. I know, I know contain your jealousy of our love showing! However, it is the beginning of a fun trip to Montana, it is the beginning of some (finally) summer weather, and it is the beginning of another year of wedded bliss with a pretty great man. What more could a girl really ask for?!

He Took it in Stride...

Today Jason came, saw, and conquered. He looked at 26.2 miles and laughed in its face. In other words...he ran the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon. The whole thing. And he finished!!! He finished strong (with a wee bit of a leg cramp even...OK so maybe he'll tell you it was more than a wee bit, but he still overcame) with a time of 3 hours and 49minutes. And he is not totally ruling out doing it again. Perhaps he was born to run!

It's official...with a medal and all...
I am sure Jason will tell you that he couldn't have done it without his cheerleaders. We were able to be at two spots along the course yelling and whistling and waving our signs...
He may or may not have followed our advice, but considering he did awesome I am thinking he did...
Cheerleading is hard work...you don't want to cool down too quickly afterwards...
You rock (and roll) Jason...
Marathoning is hard work. Training for a marathon is even harder. I should know...I did one once and I didn't really train so I know the commitment of time and energy it takes to train properly. We are so very proud of you Jason. Can I make a suggestion for your next one...Kauai in September perhaps?!

Give Me a "D", An "A", A "DDY"...

Father's Day dawned gray, misty, and a wee bit chilly, but it was only the day before the official start of summer so what more could you expect. The skies did not dampen our love for Daddy though! After presents and a hearty meal of breakfast tacos we headed up to Sequim, WA for a little bike riding on a very nice paved trail through the woods. By the way, Sequim is considered in the "rain shadow" so it would be sunny for sure.

Upon arrival we had our picnic lunch huddled in the warm interior of the truck because although living up to it's rain shadow name, ie no rain, it was still only mid 50's and gloomy. True bikers will not be thwarted, though, and we headed out. There were many beautiful sights along the way. Among the prettiest being a field of red poppies...
About midway through our ride we emerged from the trees to the actual town of Sequim and headed to a funky coffee shop for a little warm up...
Not to mention some silly faces...
Our out and back ride totaled 17.1 miles. That's 17.1 miles that the girls pedaled/rode on their little bikes that are attached to ours. That's 17.1 miles of no complaining other than the occasional tired booty. That's 17.1 miles of doing something that Daddy loves. And at the end of that 17.1 miles we had two very tired girls on our hands...
We love Daddy!!!!
p.s. This coming weekend is Jason's big marathon debut. He has been faithfully training since February and is going to do awesome. We will be cheering him along the way with custom made t-shirts and glittery signs. GO DADDY GO!!!
p.p.s. It is officially the first day of summer and the PNW is alive with green grass, beautiful flowers, gray skies, rain, and a balmy 51 degrees. Come on Mother Nature...throw me a bone here. Global warming my foot. I'm starting to think that Al Gore is full of sh*t man!

Finally Friday...

No More Pencils. No More Books. Schoooooools Out For Summer!!!!

Then (meaning last fall)...

And now...
*side note* As I was looking up the lyrics to the Alice Cooper song "School's Out For Summer" I see that one of lyrics reads...

We've got no class, We've got no principals, We've got no innocence, We can't even think of a word that rhymes.

You gotta give props to a band that when they can't think of the right words they admit it. Oh Alice Cooper you had me at your honesty. That is...you would have me if it weren't for your black guyliner, chicken head ripping, and living in the past "American Idol" performance...you kind of scare me. However, upon doing my research I learned that he is a recovered alcoholic, a born-again Christian, loves to golf, has been married to the same woman since 1976, claims to have never cheated on his spouse, has three kids, is disgusted by rock stars that publicly campaign for their favorite politician because it goes against the very fiber of rock and roll, and is a registered Republican. Who knew? Who also knew that I could start a blog talking about my children and end it with the little known facts of Alice Cooper. That, my friends, is even weirder than ripping the head off of a bat onstage!

Only In...

You know when you are somewhere and you see something that is just right for the place you are at and you say, "Only In (insert place here) would I see that or would that happen". Like, for example, when we were in Austin, TX and we saw a shirt that said God Bless Texas along with a picture of Willie Nelson giving the middle finger. Only in Texas!

Or when I was shopping in Wal Mart two days ago and a 40-something year old man came sauntering through the meat aisle with a shirt that bore the words "I May Not Be Mr. Right, But I Will F*** You Until He Comes Along". Only in Wal Mart!

Or two days ago when my mom lost her very special bracelet that my dad had made for her while running errands in the town where I grew up. The next day she went back to town to retrace her steps. She had washed her car the previous day so went to check with the owner. She was told to check the trash can because after they sweep up at night they throw all the debris in the trash. When she opened the lid to the can she didn't find her bracelet, but she did find about 50 blue surgical gloves and the lower half of a horse's leg. Only in Montana!

Or how last weekend we kept noticing a trail of dried shiny slime in our house...on the carpet near the toy box, on the wall five feet up from the floor, and in the office leading to the dog kennel. Upon further investigation and after lifting up the floor to Ringo's kennel, Jason discovered a good sized slug living under there. Only in Washington!

Maybe we should be investing our monies in charm school instead of college. What ever would Miss Manners say?
