One and a half years ago at our school auction we were the highest bidder for a week's stay in a vacation home at the Northstar Ski Resort at North Lake Tahoe (you know, we do what we can for the kids). Our friends the Genoters, Chris and Meg and their daughters Melissa and Kyra (coming from Massachusetts), went in on it with us. Last week we took the trip. I joked that I would be "forced" to spend time in the sun because if I don't come back tan people won't believe I was on vacation. We were also "forced" to do a whole lot of other things. Again...it's all for the kids.
We were "forced" to endure a whole week of little girl giggles. Let me tell you something about these four musketeers. They L.O.V.E each other. They only see each other once a year (if they are lucky), but they act as though they see each other once a week. They have been bonded since birth. I can only attribute it to the fact that their dads are more like brothers than merely best friends. It's pretty amazing.
We were "forced" to ride the chair lifts and gondolas and go on a hike to a lake.
We were "forced" to celebrate Jason's birthday (and no Jason's did not grow a red mustache...that is a wayward feather from Annika's hair). We (and when I say "we" I mean "the guys") were "forced" to mountain bike for miles and miles and end with beer by the lake.
We were "forced" to take in some beautiful scenery. You gotta love those Sierra Nevadas.
We were "forced" to attend a Brews and Music Fest in Squaw Valley.
We were "forced" to spend hours and hours in the sand beside the clearest lake I have ever seen.
We were "forced" to test the "higher altitude higher attitude" theory.
We were "forced" to enjoy some sisterly love.
We were "forced" to perfect our (and by "our" I mean "their) roller derby skills.
We were "forced" to sip cocktails while observing said roller derby skills.
We were "forced" to spend time with the ponies.
We were "forced" to make lasting memories with a family we love in a place we have fallen in love with.
Thank you so much Genoters for an amazing week of good fun, good food, and good friends. Where to next?
