Last week Lena came home with some homework...to design and assemble a leprechaun trap. She immediately got to work drawing up some plans (all on her own) and then for the next 5 days she and Jason worked on the elaborate contraption. She did a really great job and the majority of the ideas were hers. She might be following in her daddy's engineering footsteps!
Side note...at first I cursed (yes, curse words actually flew from my mouth) this project because it was met with excitement, which then led to tears when she couldn't build it immediately, which then led to more tears because by the time supplies were gathered it was bedtime, which then led to fighting amongst the siblings, which then led to more tears because younger sibling couldn't make and take not one but two traps to her own school, which then led to the afore mentioned cursing (and we were only on day 2 at this point). However, in the end, we all (OK me) chilled out and I am now loving how proud Lena is of her project.
This weekend also held some wacky weather. Saturday it was dry enough for bike riding and Sunday it was flaky enough for snowman building. Go figure...WWWW (that's Western Washington's Wacky Weather for those of you not "in the know". OK nobody should really be "in the know" since I just made it up, but I think the local weather stations could, and should, use this catchphrase).
Annika being the teacher as Lena gives her "How Does My Leprechaun Trap Work" demonstration...

Lena with her leprechaun trap. Leprechauns are known to be attracted to shiny objects...note the excessive amounts of glitter. Daddy may know how to guide in the building of a trap, but you gotta come to Momma if you wanna add some pizazz...kapowie. They also never follow directions. If you look closely you can see the poor little fellow swinging in the air after being lured in and hooked by his belt loop. Whahahahaha...

Lena's original design...

Lena approaching Mt. Bark on her bike...

Failed attempt of Mt. Bark. However, she did try again and was successful many more times...

Lena worked on this snowman all by herself. Annika rooted encouragement from inside the house through the slitted door while eating cheese and crackers and warming her tootsies. Five minutes later Mr. Sun made an appearance and Mr. Snowman toppled over. And I quote "All that work for the sun to ruin it?!" Shhhh...don't listen to her Mr. Sun...you can come back any old time and, hey, you can even stay next time...

Lena lost her 7th tooth (the bottom side one). Her new teeth are looking pretty large right about now...

I suppose if Annika were to read this blog she would say, "Lena, Lena, Lena". Don't worry little sis...I'll make the next one all about you!
