Friday night we were
lured by the c
arni's chants to try chills and thrills of the traveling carnival. As we stepped over the threshold of greasy carpet and shelled out our $18 for 20 tickets we were ready to rock and roll. We made a quick pass of all the rides to decide what to spend our tickets on (since the girls were only allowed to go on three rides each). They were
initially drawn to the
carousal, but I suggested they try something else that they had never ridden. They decided to forgo the Sky Scraper and the "Barf"
atron, instead opting for the SUPER SLIDE...
ooooooh!!!!
I don't know about the girls, but as they waited in line with their scraps of carpet I was getting more and more nervous with every minute...

Watching a previous rider shoot off the end of the landing platform. At this point I thought they might back out...

But I was wrong. After getting instructions from the ticket taker (who looked young enough to be my son) about how to keep their hands inside the carpet or they might get sliced off, up they
climbed and climbed and climbed...

After more instructions from yet another "teen" worker, they were off...

They were silent for the ride, but when they got off they were all smiles and giggles and "that was
sooo much
funs"...

Put your hands in the air...like you just don't care...

Ready for the Berry Go Round...

On a side note...the carnival workers were the nicest, most enthusiastic carnival workers I have encountered. Made me feel like maybe, just maybe, they had really tightened every last bolt and screw and even double check them! We also decided to go Friday night so we wouldn't have to deal with trying to fit in the rides on Saturday. Friday night is the night when all the local youth get gussied up and head on down to the carnival to meet their friends. Jason and I felt about 87 years old and Jason even said he felt a little "
weird" being there with all the middle/high
schoolers. However, I think it was a great idea that we went because now when
Annika and Lena BEG us to let them go to the
carnival Friday night we'll know exactly what they are up to (and exactly how short of shorts not to let them wear!).
Saturday night we slipped into the city (the girls stayed overnight at their friends Luke and Olivia's house...thanks June) and hit up the Red
Sox vs. Mariners game. Red
Sox games are great because even though it isn't on their home turf (do you say turf in baseball?) there are tons of Red
Sox fans!!! I even heard one woman say (quite disgustedly), "If I didn't know better I would think we were in Boston right now!". And Red
Sox fans love them some Red
Sox. They are passionate, loud, a wee bit obnoxious, and fun. AND the Red
Sox won!!!!
It was a gorgeous evening. We didn't even need to put on the coats we brought. Perfect baseball weather...

Root root root for the Red
Sox. It was a perfect night, a perfect game, and if only the beers weren't $8.75 a pop we wouldn't have had a care in the world...
